Sermon Excerpt: Sun Jan 30th 2011

(2Kings 4:8-37)
Summary
A wealthy Shunammite woman helps Elisha out with food and accommodation and gets blessed with a son from God. She also miraculously gets her son back from the dead after losing him to a brief illness.

Notable Points
Make up your mind to make a difference in someone else's life. Do it without expecting anything in return, and see what God will do in your life.
The Shunammite woman showed hospitality to Elisha which ended up as the key to her special blessing. God will always send someone to you to bless. Usually they do not look like someone who can pay you back. God takes it personally when you help the poor. He repays on their behalf.

The Devil will show up to take your blessing away or to afflict you with more problems. You cannot afford to keep quiet. You have to know that the gift is from God and that you deserve to keep it. You have to take the problem to God. God should not be your last resort. It is not over until God says it is over.
Rather than give up and lament her situation, the woman placed her son in the man of God's room. She ran with determination to Elijah and did not let him go until he came to lay hands on her child. Just like Jacob who refused to leave the Angel of God until he blessed him and changed the course of his destiny.

After God begins His work you have to get out of his way; you must trust him completely. You need to surrender to God and you need to Worship him with all your heart.
Elijah entered the room and the woman stayed outside to await the outcome. She did not insist on monitoring his actions.
Twice, the woman fell at his feet. The first time to show that she surrendered to God's ability to solve the problem, and the second time to show heartfelt gratitude
